Ceragon IP-50EXP - High-Power E-Band Radio

71-86 GHz (E-Band), 24 dBm TX Power, Extended Range, Up to 10 Gbps

The IP-50EXP is the high-power variant of Ceragon's E-band platform, designed for operators who need to extend link distances or improve availability margins beyond what the standard IP-50EX can achieve. With transmit power up to 24 dBm, the IP-50EXP provides additional link budget that translates directly into either longer reach or higher availability at a given distance.

This matters because E-band links face a fundamental trade-off between capacity, distance, and availability. Rain attenuation at 80 GHz is significant, and the additional power of the IP-50EX-P provides margin to maintain service during precipitation events that would cause a lower-power radio to fall back to reduced throughput or lose connectivity entirely. For critical applications where link availability drives network design, this extra margin can be the difference between meeting and missing availability targets.

Like all E-band equipment in Norway, the IP-50EXP benefits from the simplified "light licensing" regime at 80 GHz. Operators need only register their links with NKOM rather than going through traditional frequency coordination and assignment processes. This regulatory simplicity, combined with the wide channel bandwidths available in E-band, makes multi-gigabit wireless deployment significantly more practical than in conventional microwave bands.

The radio supports the same ACMB (adaptive coding, modulation and bandwidth) technology as the standard IP-50EX, dynamically adjusting transmission parameters in response to changing propagation conditions. Combined with the higher transmit power, this provides robust operation across varying weather conditions while maximising throughput when conditions permit.

Key Capabilities

  • Extended Range and Availability
    • 24 dBm transmit power for improved link budget
    • Longer distances or higher availability at equivalent range
    • Better resilience during rain fade conditions
  • High Capacity E-Band Operation
    • Up to 10 Gbps per radio (1+0 configuration)
    • Up to 20 Gbps with 2+0 XPIC configuration
    • ACMB technology for adaptive fade mitigation
  • Simplified Licensing in Norway
    • E-band (80 GHz) requires only registration with NKOM
    • No frequency coordination or assignment process
    • Significantly faster deployment compared to traditional bands

When to Choose IP-50EX-P over IP-50EX

  • Distance Requirements
    • Links approaching or exceeding 2-3 km where standard power may be marginal
    • Sites where antenna size constraints limit gain options
  • Availability Requirements
    • Critical infrastructure requiring carrier-grade availability targets
    • Applications where throughput reduction during rain is unacceptable
  • Environmental Conditions
    • Regions with higher rainfall intensity or frequency
    • Deployments where conservative link budgets are preferred
