Ceragon IP-50EX - Compact All-outdoor E-Band Radio
71-86 GHz (E-Band), Up to 10 Gbps, 1+0 / 2+0
The IP-50EX delivers multi-gigabit capacity in the E-band spectrum (71-86 GHz), designed for short to medium range links where high throughput is needed without the complexity of traditional microwave licensing. In Norway, E-band operation at 80 GHz falls under a light licensing regime - operators need only register their links rather than apply for individual frequency assignments. This significantly simplifies deployment compared to conventional licensed bands.
E-band's wide channel availability enables capacities that would require multiple carriers in lower frequency bands. The IP-50EX supports up to 10 Gbps in a single 1+0 configuration, scaling to 20 Gbps with 2+0 XPIC. This makes it well-suited for capacity-intensive applications over distances typically ranging from a few hundred metres to around 3 kilometres, depending on availability requirements and local climate conditions.
The compact and lightweight design addresses a common constraint in urban deployments: visual impact and structural loading. Where larger antennas or multiple radio units might face planning objections or require structural reinforcement, the IP-50EX's small footprint often provides a more straightforward path to deployment approval.
The radio incorporates adaptive coding, modulation and bandwidth (ACMB) technology that adjusts transmission parameters in response to atmospheric conditions. This provides more graceful degradation during rain fade events compared to fixed-parameter operation, maintaining connectivity albeit at reduced capacity rather than dropping the link entirely.
