ACRIOS ACR-CV-102L-M - Wired M-Bus to LoRaWAN Converter

EU868, 16 UL M-Bus master, EN 13757-3, SMA antenna, IP67

Version: ACR-CV-102L-M-D (single D-cell battery pack, 19 000 mAh)

The ACR-CV-102L-M is a battery-powered converter that reads wired M-Bus meters and forwards the data over LoRaWAN. It acts as bus master and powers the M-Bus line itself, with capacity for up to 16 unit loads, so existing heat, water and electricity meters compliant with EN 13757-3 can be read remotely without mains power at the metering point. With an IP67 enclosure and an operating range of -30 to +60 °C, the device is designed for installation both outdoors and in harsh indoor environments.

Readings are forwarded as standard M-Bus frames, either complete or reduced on the device to fit LoRaWAN payload and duty-cycle limits. The data can be decoded with standard M-Bus parsers and received through any standard LoRaWAN network server, with no dependency on an ACRIOS platform. Setup is done with a web-based wizard, and reading interval and meter addressing can later be changed remotely via LoRaWAN downlink.

This version, ACR-CV-102L-M-D, has a single D-cell battery pack. ACRIOS states 3.6–3.8 years at 15-minute readings on SF7 and more than ten years at hourly readings; higher spreading factors, more meters and longer telegrams will shorten this. Versions with a double battery pack (ACR-CV-102L-M-D2) or external power supply (ACR-CV-102L-M-EAC, 85–305 V AC) are available on request.

Key Features

  • M-Bus Master for Existing Meters
    • Powers the M-Bus line from the converter, no separate bus supply needed
    • Bus load up to 16 UL (24 mA); most meters draw 1 UL, but some need more, so check the meter documentation
    • Primary and secondary addressing, wildcard and broadcast polling
    • Verified by the manufacturer with 30+ meter models from Kamstrup, Landis+Gyr, Diehl, Sontex, Engelmann and others
  • Open Data Path, No Platform Lock-in
    • Standard EN 13757-3 frames over LoRaWAN, decodable by any M-Bus parser
    • VIF/DIF filtering and fragmentation (truncate, split, multiframe) to fit payload and duty-cycle limits
    • Transparent mode for forwarding complete telegrams
    • Works with public and private LoRaWAN networks, e.g. ChirpStack and The Things Stack
  • Fast Commissioning and Remote Management
    • Web-based Wizard: scan the bus, select values, set reading interval (from 15 minutes)
    • Reading interval, addressing and meter list adjustable via LoRaWAN downlink
    • Lua scripting interface for advanced users
    • Firmware updates over the air (proprietary FUOTA)
  • Built for Field Installation
    • IP67 enclosure with captive lid screws
    • SMA antenna port, so the antenna can be moved outside a metal cabinet
    • WAGO CAGE CLAMP® terminal block for tool-free bus wiring
    • Field-replaceable D-cell battery

Typical Applications

  • District Heating
    • Remote reading of heat meters in substations and heat stations
  • Water Utilities
    • Bulk water meters at building entry points, including outdoor installations
  • Building Operators and Retrofit Projects
    • Adding remote reading to existing M-Bus heat, water and electricity meters without replacing them
    • Sites without a nearby power outlet
